Al Jazeera

For those that don't know what Al Jazeera is, I'll give a brief background. Al Jazeera is an international news network based in Doha, Qatar. They are a bit "underground" if you will, based on the fact that the network is known for presenting dissenting views, challenging officials, questioning governments, regimes, practices and policies of other media outlets and individuals. Al Jazeera was instrumental in getting information out during the days/weeks/months following the Sept. 11th attacks. They were the only news network reporting live from Afghanistan. The network is also known for placing reporters quite literally in the heart of situations around the world. Al Jazeera has given a voice to people in countries in the Middle East where they never had a chance to speak before...not only that, in these countries they are the first network to present dissenting views to citizens of a country that are given little to no truthful information about what is going on in their countries. This should actually sound familiar to Americans, but it doesn't ...because we think we get the truth from our news networks!

Al Jazeera is blocked or banned in many places. The United States has large blackouts placed on Al Jazeera. They say it is largely due to misconceptions about the networks content.. I'd sooner believe they are blocked because of a complete understanding about the networks content. I would venture to say that Al Jazeera will present to you more truthful informative information about what is going on in the Middle East than ANY OTHER source of information available. Largely our news outlets focus on humanitarian stories to evoke emotional responses in people. They present stories designed to elicit fear and outrage in us. Outrage and the happenings, and fear that if we don't use they type of force we are using, these terrible images will come right to our doorsteps.
